
Biography
Matthew opens by identifying Jesus Christ as son of David and son of Abraham . The same chapter presents his birth from Mary, with Joseph named as her husband and told that the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit .
Luke also places Jesus in a genealogy, tracing the line backward through Joseph and ultimately to Adam . The differences between Matthew's and Luke's genealogies are handled in the disputes apparatus, not resolved in this prose.
The Gospels present Jesus announcing God's kingdom, healing the sick, teaching disciples, being crucified under Pilate, and being raised .
