
Biography
Solomon was born to David and Bathsheba, and Nathan named him Jedidiah because Yahweh loved him . Near David's death, Solomon was anointed king at Gihon while Adonijah's rival claim collapsed .
At Gibeon, Solomon asked for an understanding heart to judge the people, and God gave him wisdom along with riches and honor . His judgment between the two women and the living child displayed that wisdom to Israel .
Solomon built Yahweh's house in Jerusalem and prayed at its dedication . Later, his foreign wives turned his heart after other gods, and Yahweh announced that the kingdom would be torn from his son, though not all of it for David's sake .
Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David, and Rehoboam his son reigned after him . Matthew traces the line from David through Solomon toward Jesus .
