Biography
Esau was born to Isaac and Rebekah before Jacob, and Genesis explains the names and the struggle between the twins at birth . He became a skillful hunter and was loved by Isaac, while Rebekah loved Jacob .
Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for bread and lentil stew . Later, Jacob received the blessing that Isaac had intended for Esau, and Esau wept and asked for a blessing of his own .
Genesis later records a peaceful meeting between Esau and Jacob, with Esau running to meet him, embracing him, and weeping . The book also identifies Esau with Edom and lists his descendants outside the line traced through Jacob .
