John son of Zebedee is listed with his brother James among the apostles of Jesus Matthew 10:2 Mark 3:17.
The Gospels place John with Peter and James at the transfiguration, and Acts names John beside Peter in early Jerusalem witness Mark 9:2-8 Acts 3:1-10.
John is not in the line to Jesus.
