Abijah

Abijam came to Judah's throne after Rehoboam, beginning his 3 year reign in Jerusalem during the reign of Jeroboam over Israel 1 Kings 15:1-2. His heart was not wholly devoted like the heart of David, yet Yahweh preserved a lamp in Jerusalem for David's sake 1 Kings 15:3-5.

War continued between Judah and Israel in his days, and Chronicles presents Abijah confronting Jeroboam over the Davidic kingdom, temple service, and Judah's appeal to Yahweh 2 Chronicles 13:2-20. Matthew places Abijah between Rehoboam and Asa in the genealogy of Jesus Matthew 1:7.

Abijam died and was buried in the city of David, and Asa his son reigned after him 1 Kings 15:7-8.
