Asa
King
Biography
Asa came to Judah's throne after Abijah and reigned 41 years in Jerusalem . He did what was right in Yahweh's eyes, removed cult prostitutes from the land, removed idols made by his fathers, and deposed the queen mother because of an abominable image .
His reforms extended through Judah as he commanded the people to seek Yahweh, removed foreign altars and high places, and built fortified cities during a period of rest . When a Cushite army came against Judah, Asa cried to Yahweh, and Judah pursued the defeated army .
Conflict with Baasha of Israel led Asa to send silver and gold to the king of Syria for help . A seer rebuked him for relying on Syria rather than Yahweh, and later, when diseased in his feet, he sought physicians rather than Yahweh . Asa died and Jehoshaphat his son reigned after him .
