Baasha
King
Biography
Baasha son of Ahijah from the house of Issachar rose against Nadab at Gibbethon and killed him . He became king over Israel in the 3rd year of Asa king of Judah and reigned 24 years in Tirzah .
His reign stayed inside the sin of Jeroboam I, and he did evil in Yahweh's sight . During his conflict with Asa, Baasha built Ramah to restrict movement in and out of Judah, and Asa answered by sending temple and palace silver and gold to Ben hadad of Syria so that Syrian pressure would force Baasha away from Ramah .
Yahweh's word came against Baasha through Jehu son of Hanani, declaring judgment on his house because he had walked in the way of Jeroboam and made Israel sin . Baasha died and was buried in Tirzah, and Elah his son reigned in his place .
