Biography

Jehoiakim, first named Eliakim, was son of Josiah and was made king when Pharaoh Neco removed Jehoahaz and changed Eliakim's name to Jehoiakim . He was 25 when he became king and reigned 11 years in Jerusalem .

His mother was Zebidah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah, and he did evil in Yahweh's sight according to all his fathers had done . He gave Pharaoh Neco the silver and gold demanded from the land, taxing the people to pay it .

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against him, and Jehoiakim served him 3 years before turning and rebelling . Bands from Chaldeans, Syrians, Moabites, and Ammonites came against Judah according to Yahweh's word through his servants the prophets .

Jehoiakim died, and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place . Matthew names Josiah, then Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the Babylonian exile, without naming Jehoiakim in that genealogy line .
