Manasseh
King
Biography
Manasseh son of Hezekiah became king at 12 and reigned 55 years in Jerusalem . He rebuilt high places, made altars for Baal, made an Asherah, worshiped the host of heaven, and put altars in Yahweh's house .
Under Manasseh, Judah did more evil than the nations Yahweh had destroyed before Israel . Prophetic judgment fell against Jerusalem, and Manasseh shed very much innocent blood .
Chronicles adds that Manasseh was taken with hooks to Babylon, humbled himself, prayed, and was brought back to Jerusalem . After his return, he removed foreign gods and the idol from Yahweh's house and commanded Judah to serve Yahweh . Matthew names Manasseh between Hezekiah and Amon in the genealogy of Jesus .
