Biography

Ahaz son of Jotham reigned 16 years in Jerusalem during the era of Pekah in Israel . He did not do what was right in Yahweh's eyes like David, but walked in the way of the kings of Israel and made his son pass through the fire .

When the king of Syria and Pekah came against Jerusalem, Ahaz sent silver and gold from Yahweh's house and the king's house to the king of Assyria . The Immanuel sign in Isaiah belongs to this same crisis against the house of David during Ahaz's reign .

After seeing an altar in Damascus, Ahaz sent its pattern to Jerusalem and commanded offerings on the new altar . Chronicles adds that he cut up vessels from God's house, shut the doors of Yahweh's house, and made altars throughout Jerusalem .

Ahaz died and Hezekiah his son reigned after him . Matthew names Ahaz between Jotham and Hezekiah in the genealogy of Jesus .
