Biography

Joash survived Athaliah's destruction of the royal seed because he was hidden in Yahweh's house for 6 years while Athaliah ruled the land . He was brought out, crowned, given the testimony, and proclaimed king before Athaliah was put to death .

Jehoash was 7 when his 40 year reign began in Jerusalem . He did what was right in Yahweh's eyes while the priest instructed him, though the high places remained .

Temple repair became a defining work of his reign, with money brought to Yahweh's house directed toward repairing its breaches . After the priest's death, Judah's officials abandoned Yahweh's house and served Asherim and idols, and Joash commanded the stoning of the priest's son who rebuked the people by God's Spirit .

When the king of Syria threatened Jerusalem, Jehoash gave him dedicated things and gold from Yahweh's house and the king's house . Joash was struck down by his servants at Beth Millo, and Amaziah his son reigned after him .
