Biography

Amaziah son of Joash reigned 29 years in Jerusalem . He did what was right in Yahweh's eyes, though not like David, and the high places remained .

After his kingdom was established, Amaziah executed the servants who had killed Joash his father but spared their children in keeping with the written command in the law . He defeated Edomites in the Valley of Salt, then brought back the gods of Seir and bowed down before them .

His challenge to Jehoash king of Israel ended in defeat at Beth Shemesh, a broken section of Jerusalem's wall, and the loss of gold, silver, vessels, and hostages . Conspirators pursued Amaziah to Lachish and killed him, and Azariah his son was made king after him .
