Biography

Jehoash, also called Joash, was son of Jehoahaz and became king over Israel in Samaria in the 37th year of Joash king of Judah . He reigned 16 years, did evil in Yahweh's sight, and did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam I .

When Elisha became sick with the illness from which he died, Joash came down to him and wept over him . Elisha had him shoot the arrow of Yahweh's victory and strike the ground, and the prophet announced that Joash would strike Syria 3 times .

After Hazael died, Jehoash defeated Ben hadad 3 times and recovered Israelite cities that Hazael had taken from Jehoahaz . He later fought Amaziah of Judah at Beth shemesh, captured him, broke down part of Jerusalem's wall, took the gold and silver and vessels from Yahweh's house and the king's house, took hostages, and returned to Samaria . Jehoash died and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel, and Jeroboam II reigned in his place .
