Biography
Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi was anointed king when a prophet sent by Elisha poured oil on him and declared Yahweh's word against the house of Ahab . His fellow commanders spread garments under him, blew the trumpet, and proclaimed him king .
Jehu drove to Jezreel, killed Joram of Israel, and ordered his body thrown into the field of Naboth . He also struck Ahaziah of Judah, and Ahaziah fled wounded and died .
At Jezreel, Jehu ordered Jezebel thrown down, and dogs consumed her body in keeping with Elijah's word . He then destroyed the remaining house of Ahab in Samaria and killed those connected with Ahab until none remained .
Jehu gathered the worshipers of Baal, killed them, destroyed the Baal pillar and temple, and made the site a latrine . He did not turn away from the golden calves at Bethel and Dan, yet Yahweh promised that his sons would sit on Israel's throne to the 4th generation because he had carried out judgment on the house of Ahab . Jehu reigned 28 years in Samaria, died, and was succeeded by Jehoahaz his son .
