Menahem became king over Israel in the 39th year of Azariah king of Judah and reigned 10 years in Samaria . He did evil in Yahweh's sight and did not depart all his days from the sins of Jeroboam I .

Pul king of Assyria came against the land, and Menahem gave him 1000 talents of silver so that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand .
